Areas of Specialty

At Conversations in Canoes, we apply the wisdom of the canoe to our work. The canoe is more than a vessel; it's a symbol of teamwork, communication, and moving forward. We believe in the power of equitable dialogue, collaboration, and Indigenous principles to guide socially and ecologically responsible initiatives. As Métis women rooted in the Great Lakes region, we act as interpreters, blending ancestral wisdom with contemporary insights. We're informed by various streams of work and knowledge:

  • Rights-based approaches: Advocating for Indigenous, human, and environmental rights.

  • Indigenous methodologies: Emphasizing and upholding Indigenous ways of doing research, education, storytelling, art, connecting to and caring for the land,

  • EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion): Fostering inclusivity and offering unique perspectives as Métis women.

  • Place-based solutions: Community- and land-centered approaches to problem solving, rooted in tradition.
